Total Body Photography
Patients who have a personal history of melanoma or atypical nevi (moles), a family history of melanoma, or numerous unusual moles benefit from total body photography.
Total body photography, also known as grid photos or mole mapping, provides a baseline reference for tracking moles over time. The entire surface of a patient’s skin is documented photographically. Included are close-ups of atypical moles or other areas of concern. Our goal is to equip patients and their medical providers with photographs to track mole patterns for early signs of melanoma. By referring to these photos during skin self-exams and office visits, patients and physicians are better able to detect changes of individual lesions and reduce unnecessary removal of benign moles.
